Preserving Ethiopia's Coffee Heritage
Mustafa Mohamed Ali has an incredible legacy. His family's coffee farm in Gera was started by his father over 70 years ago. With hard work and perseverance, Mustafa upholds this treasured inheritance. He produces a rare, natural forest coffee with delicate floral notes. The farm's ancient plots lie in the heart of Ethiopia's famed Jimma region.
The Gera farm sits at a lofty 2,000 meters, surrounded by unspoiled natural beauty. Endemic plants and trees thrive here, shading the precious coffee seedlings. These heritage coffee varieties were lovingly transplanted from Choche's wild forest by Mustafa's father decades ago. That protected forest is now a revered reserve. Mustafa's family holdings are a cherished link to this ecological marvel.
For over 30 years, Mustafa has nurtured this special family farm with devotion. He meticulously tends the 25 hectares and original coffee trees from the wild forest. Mustafa preserves the endemic forest surrounding his crops too. This creates a one-of-a-kind, natural forest coffee shaped by traditional farming wisdom like manual harvesting. Mustafa's humble life's work sustains an irreplaceable Ethiopian treasure.
